ถ้านักเรียนเปิดพจนานุกรมอังกฤษ-ไทย จะพบว่า Cynical แปลว่า ที่ชอบดูถูก เหยียดหยาม ถากถางคนอื่น
แต่ Cynical มีความหมายที่มากไปกว่านั้น และจะเหมาะกับการแปลคอมเม้นท์นี้มากกว่าค่ะ ซึ่งครูคงไม่เอาคำแปลภาคภาษาอังกฤษมาทั้งหมด แต่จะแนะให้ลองทำความเข้าใจจากคำพ้องความหมายแทนนะคะ

คำว่า Listening นี้ อยู่ในรูปของ Gerund (กริยานาม) ค่ะ ก่อนอื่น ขอทบทวนกันสักหน่อย ว่า Gerund คืออะไร
Gerund คือกริยาที่อยู่ในรูป Verb + ing ทำหน้าที่เสมือนเป็นคำนาม กฎเกฎฑ์ด้านไวยากรณ์เกี่ยวกับกริยานามนี้ มีมากมายหลายข้ออยู่ ครูจะขอเน้นในส่วนที่เกี่ยวกับคอมเม้นท์ของอแมนดานี้นะคะ
วิธีการใช้ Gerund วิธีหนึ่ง คือการวาง Gerund ไว้หลังคำนามบางคำ อย่างหลังคำว่า privilege ถ้าแปลแบบตรงตัว ก็จะแปลได้ว่า “เป็นเรื่องที่พิเศษสุดจริงๆ ในการได้รับฟังเสียงเพลงของคุณ” ตัวอย่างเพิ่มเติม มีดังนี้ค่ะ

อันที่จริง ถ้าเราจะวางกริยาสักตัวไว้หลังบุพบท ก็ต้องเปลี่ยนรูปกริยานั้นๆ ให้เป็น V. ing อยู่แล้ว ดังนั้น ในกรณีเช่นนี้ ความยากของการเขียน จะอยู่ที่ การใช้บุพบทที่ถูกต้องมากกว่า เห็นด้วยไหมคะ
