The map below is of the town of Garlsdon. A new supermarket (S) is planned for the town. The map shows two possible sites for the supermarket. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The map presents the lay out of Garlsdon town and the identified sites for the proposed new supermarket.
Follow this structure;
1. Introduce the map (paraphrase the title of the map, make sure you include the time frame if there’s one)
2. Give an overview( state the main trend/ trends or observation in the map. Don’t give detail such as data here)
3. Give the details (Give details with reference to the data. Organize body paragraphs by grouping data together where there are patterns.)
Key trends for Supermarket 2 (S2)
As it can be seen from the map, Supermarket 2 is surrounded by rust belt cities. Also, in the north and south of its map, there are small resident areas. The busy main road from Cransdon to Bransdon and vice versa is linked to the center of town, where Supermarket 2 is sited in.
Key trends for Supermarket 1 (S1)
due to Supermarket 1 located in countryside between the main road and the railway to Hindon, there is a high probability that Supermarket 1 would show a great merit. People from the town centre and the other outskirts could use train and car to this area, while the use of transportation in the area of Supermarket 2 is not allowed.
The map shows the Garlsdon town which has a population of 65 thousand and two
possible areas of a supermarket, demonstrated as S1 and S2.
Looking first at the one in the north-west, represented as S1, a supermarket will be
situated in Garlsdon countryside which is near to its housing zone and has a close proximity to a
main road and a railway passing through the city center. Moreover, customers from Hindon, with
10,000 population, could also travel by road with 12 kilometres long.
On the other hand, S2 is planned to be constructed in the town center, which may be
more crowded but residents could only be accessible by train cause there is no main road to
reach this site. In addition, it is close to Bransdon which has 15 thousand population and just 16
kilometres far from Garlsdon. Residents (29 thousand) of another neighbor town, Cransdon, can
probably come by cars but it is not convenient enough since it will take too long travelling with
25 kilometres far away.
Overall, we can see that these two sites have different features, S1 is more convenient
for travelers who can use cars or trains, but there is no other towns nearby. In contrast, S2 is in
the town center but clients have to use railway to get there cause it is in a car-free zone.
